What are the four IELTS criteria?
The IELTS Writing Task 2 is graded on four criteria: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Task Response refers to how well the writer addresses the task and provides a relevant and clear position on the topic. Coherence and Cohesion refer to how well the writer organizes their ideas and presents them in a logical and cohesive manner. Lexical Resource refers to the range and appropriateness of the vocabulary used, as well as how accurately and appropriately words are used in context. Grammatical Range and Accuracy refer to how well the writer uses a variety of sentence structures and how accurately and appropriately they use grammar. Each criterion is given a band score of 0-9, and the four scores are then averaged to give the final Writing Task 2 band score.
